The 16th European annual Komatsu ATC (Advanced Technical Contest) was held on 4 September at the Komatsu Germany Construction factory (KGC) in Hanover, Germany.
The contest consists of 3 categories in which MKL staff competed against 32 staff from 15 other European depots – Troubleshooting, Mechanical Repairs and a Walk Around Inspection for the PSSR. The aim of the contest is to improve product knowledge, trouble-shooting expertise and communication skills across the depots, feeding into maintaining and increasing customer service levels and satisfaction, with each part taking 45 minutes.
Kevin Henderson (Lead Field Service Technician at CLS) helped coach and mentor the three MKL entrants – Ross Logan, Dale Redden and Mike Knowles.
Mechanical Repair:
Contestants had to troubleshoot an electrical fault on a WA475-11 excavator. This entailed interviewing the customer to gather info and then troubleshooting that fault using SDT (Komatsu’s new diagnostic system) to clear it.
Ross Logan represented MKL and came 1st in this category!
Troubleshooting:
Contestants needed to study a work order from a previous customer service visit to a WA80-8EO and then complete the repair on the machine in line with this order.
Dale Redden represented MKL and came 4th!
Walk Around Inspection:
Contestants had to carry out a walk around inspection on a PW160-11 excavator after seeing a previous customer brief, complete a report, and then select and submit a parts list.
Mike Knowles represented MKL and came 6th!
Ross, Dale and Mike gave maximum effort in difficult conditions competing against the best Engineers and PSSR’s in Europe, while paying great attention to and adhering to Health and safety requirements needed.
We’re very proud of the results achieved and appreciate the effort and hard work they have all put in to remaining at the top of their game and being able to offer our customers the best experience – thank you!
