Recently Marubeni-Komatsu held in conjunction with TopCon, a demonstration of Intelligent Machine Control for a number of customers at Komatsu’s manufacturing and assembly plant at Birtley in County Durham. The event which was repeated over two days featured the new D61PXi-23 Dozer, plus a prototype of the PC210LCi-10 excavator.
D61PXi-23 Dozer
Unlike previous models that relied on a mast and antenna to be fitted to the blade to allow automatic machine control, the D61EXi/PXi-23 Dozer has the system components integrated and installed into the machine at the factory. This means that there are no more coiled cables between machine and blade. Plus the antenna (which has been fitted into the roof of the cab) is now less likely to get damaged. The machine which is fitted with the Komatsu 3D machine control system, that has been developed in conjunction with Topcon, can perform not only finish grading, which has been possible with conventional machine control, but also rough dozing. This reduces dozing time and increases productivity. The system also minimises track wear and damage to the graded surface caused by track slip.
Longer track-on ground standard (EX) and low ground pressure (PX) models are available to offer customers flotation and weight distribution options that best match their applications. Operating weights 17,890 to 18,770 kg depending on the configuration.
Also being demonstrated was the PC210LCi-10 excavator. This prototype model allows the operator to dig as normal but the Intelligent Machine Control system will not allow the cut to go below a set depth. This reduces the time needed for finishing tasks such as flat bottom trenches.
PC210LCi-10 Excavator
The two day event was attended by a variety of customers, a number of whom tried out the machines for themselves and were impressed with the results.
The D61EXi/PXi-23 Dozer will be arriving in the UK in September this year, whilst the PC210LCi-10 excavator will not be available until next year. The D61EXi/PXi-23 Dozer also has Komtrax(Komatsu’s machine tracking system) fitted as standard. It also comes with KomatsuCARE our complimentary maintenance programme, which covers factory-scheduled maintenance, for the first three years or 2,000 hours of service.
