Interview with Anthony Sissons, Field Service Engineer.

Anthony Sissons joined us in January 2019 as a Field Service Engineer. We recently caught up with him to hear about life as a Field Service Engineer and his experience working for Marubeni-Komatsu.

Tell us a bit about your career so far, where have you previously worked?

My career so far has been quite amazing, I spent many years in other countries working for some of the world’s biggest construction dealers and mining companies.

For 15 years I was working in Australia, and it was by far the most memorable. It also provided me with the experience and skills needed to open up other opportunities within the industry. Whilst working abroad there was some tough incidents along the way. I survived a kidnapping in Kyrgyzstan and caught frostbite, but I would do it all again to get where I am today.

What’s a typical day in the life of a Field Service Engineer like?

Most days are very different which keeps the role interesting, you never know exactly what to expect until you arrive at the job.

As I am field based it takes a fair degree of self-discipline and organisation to keep on top of the jobs the service coordinators have organised for me each day. I like to get up and away very early most mornings in order to complete the required jobs.

Once I have arrived on site, I start off by chatting with the customer about what needs doing, so communication skills and being able to provide good customer service is very useful.

Sometimes the job requires a basic service and sometimes it can be very complex so its great to be able to think outside the box and be prepared to use some of your free time to keep up to date with the administration tasks that go with the job.

What do you like best about working for Marubeni-Komatsu?

I am proud to be working for a highly recognised brand and trusted dealership.

What advice would you give someone wanting to apply for a Field Service Engineer?

I would fully recommend this type of role for anyone with heavy plant experience. It can be challenging at times but it is also highly rewarding and can offer a varied career path and progression into other areas of Marubeni-Komatsu.
