The new Komatsu PC210LCi-10, the first excavator with a factory fitted Intelligent Machine Control system, has been launched today at the UK Komatsu manufacturing and assembly plant in Birtley, County Durham. Representatives of the industry press were in attendance to be first welcomed to the factory by Managing Director Peter Howe, before receiving an in-depth presentation about the new excavator by Komatsu UK, Product Manager Mal McCoy.

It was then time for the journalists to get their hands on the new excavator, by trying it out for themselves in the purpose built demonstration area, adjacent to the factory. The new excavator was generally well received and acknowledged as being a major technological breakthrough for excavator design. Even more there was pride in the fact that the new excavator will be produced in Britain at the Birtley plant, keeping British manufacturing at the forefront of this technological development.
The first of its type in the World, the PC210LCi-10 features a factory fitted and fully integrated Intelligent Machine Control and guidance system, eliminating the need for an after-market installation. This guidance system shows in real time, the movement of boom arm and bucket and works to a pre-set jobsite design. This results in a faster and more accurate operator. The system also prevents over-digging (as the system will not allow the cut to go below a set depth) and is more cost effective and safer, as trench checking and staking are eliminated. From rough digging to finish grading, the PC210LCi-10 excavator can dramatically improve efficiency, precision and safety on the work site.
This coupled with all the other qualities and benefits of a standard Komatsu PC210LC-10 excavator, plus KomatsuCare, a complimentary maintenance program for the first three years or 2.000 working hours, makes it a very attractive machine indeed.
